DMR stands for Designated Marksman Rifle, it is a modified version of M14 with enhanced accuracy and range. As a long range weapon, it beats M40 due to its semi-automatic mode; and it also beats its sister M16A4, as it takes 7.62 ammo (thus better accuracy at long range). So although the vintage M14 has phased out by 1970 already, the DMR M14 is still in service with the USMC. The DMR has a different barrel, stock, grip from the basic M14, it can also attach bipods and scopes.
